Online retail in the Netherlands will continue to show double digit growth in 2017 and 2018, according to a retail report by ABN-AMRO Bank. The bank expects the Dutch e-commerce sales to grow by 16% in 2017 and 15% in 2018. This means that online grows around 10 times faster than total retail, for which ABN-AMRO expects growth rates of 1.5% in 2017 and 1.3% in 2018 (based on volume). Overall, the Dutch economy has recovered strongly since 2014 and consumer confidence is very high.
Once again, these forecasts show that the very strong development of the e-commerce market in Holland in the past years is likely to last over the years to come. That is also good news for international online retailers who are looking for expansion of their cross-border e-commerce business in promising geographies, especially those in the surrounding countries who have very easy access to the Dutch market.
