Dutch online buyers have spent +41% more on products from cross-border webshops in 2016, compared to 2015. A total amount of € 384m was spent on products from online merchants, located outside the Netherlands. Together with cross-border services, which increased by a moderate +5%, this brought the total amount of cross-border consumer spend to € 637m in 2016. These figures were published by Thuiswinkel.org, the Dutch Association for online retailers, together with GfK.
26% of the Dutch population older than 15, was active in cross-border e-commerce in 2016. 30% of cross-border spend went to China, 15% to Germany, 14% to the UK and 11% to the USA.
Once again, these figures show that the online market in the Netherlands is highly attractive for merchants from the neighboring countries and the USA.
